Kerala logs 15,637 new Covid cases on Wednesday; 128 fatalities, TPR at 10.03

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 15,637 new Covid cases on Wednesday, informed health department in a press release. With 128 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 14,938. Test positivity rate was recorded at 10.03.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Malappuram – 2030, Kozhikode - 2022, Ernakulam - 1894, Thrissur - 1704, Kollam – 1154, Thiruvananthapuram - 1133, Palakkad - 1111, Alappuzha - 930, Kannur - 912, Kottayam - 804, Kasaragod – 738, Pathanamthitta - 449, Wayanad - 433 and Idukki – 323.
A total of 1,55,882 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 248,04,801 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.
57 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 14,717 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 797 patients remains unidentified.
The district-wise statistics of contact cases: Malappuram – 1968, Kozhikode - 1984, Ernakulam - 1839, Thrissur - 1694, Kollam – 1149, Thiruvananthapuram - 1050, Palakkad - 654, Alappuzha - 911, Kannur - 799, Kottayam - 763, Kasaragod – 726, Pathanamthitta - 437, Wayanad - 428 and Idukki – 315.
66 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19. Among them, 12 were from Kannur, 9 from Kasaragod, 6 each from Thrissur, Malappuram and Palakkad, 5 each from Pathanamthitta and Kottayam, 4 each from Kollam, Kozhikode and Wayanad, 3 from Thiruvananthapuram and 2 from Ernakulam.
Meanwhile, 12,974 recoveries were also reported in the state.
The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram – 837, Kollam - 1937, Pathanamthitta - 311, Alappuzha - 825, Kottayam - 836, Idukki - 315, Ernakulam - 904, Thrissur - 1353, Palakkad - 1087, Malappuram - 1624, Kozhikode - 1080, Wayanad - 292, Kannur - 980 and Kasaragod - 593.
With this, the number of active cases touched 1,17,708 in the state. 29,70,175 people recovered from the disease so far.
3,92,170 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 3,67,560 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 24,610 people are in hospitals. 2373 people were taken to hospitals on Wednesday.
