Strike supporters assault auto driver, vandalise vehicle in Kozhikode

Kozhikode: Several clashes were reported in the state on the first day of the two-day nationwide strike announced by various train unions against central government policies. It is reported that protestors have allegedly assaulted an auto driver and his family and vandalised the auto-rickshaw at Nadakkavu here on Monday.

The attack took place when the autorickshaw driver was returning from the temple with his family. The auto driver filed a complaint against the protestors at Kasaba police station. In his complaint, he alleged that a group of people had beaten him and smashed the glass of the vehicle. The incident happened in the presence of children and women. The auto driver said that the attackers did not even give him the opportunity to speak.

Meanwhile, the strike has turned out into a hartal in the state. Protestors are blocking passengers and private vehicles in many places. The 48-hour strike will end at 12 midnight on Tuesday.

In Ernakulam, protestors barred employees in BPCL. Meanwhile, Police intervened to calm the situation in several places. Earlier, the High Court had banned the strike in BPCL. Based on this ruling, the employees arrived for work in the refinery.
