Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Police Department, AIG of Law and Order Division, VG Vinod Kumar, has been accused by two women Sub-Inspectors of sending inappropriate messages and making calls during late hours via WhatsApp.

The complaints have triggered an internal investigation led by South Zone DIG Ajeetha Begum, who recorded the statements of the complainants and submitted a preliminary report to State Police Chief Ravada A Chandrasekhar.

Following the DIG’s report, the DGP entrusted AIG Merin Joseph, heading the Internal Complaints Redressal Cell at the police headquarters, with the responsibility of conducting a formal investigation.

According to sources, the alleged incidents occurred when Vinod Kumar was serving as the District Police Chief of Pathanamthitta. He reportedly sent messages and made phone calls to the women officers via WhatsApp during night shifts. The officers have also alleged that the AIG often made demeaning and disrespectful remarks towards them.

AIG denies allegations, alleges conspiracy

In response, VG Vinod Kumar has filed a counter-complaint with the State Police Chief, claiming that the allegations against him are part of a deliberate conspiracy to tarnish his reputation. He maintains that the messages and calls he made to the officers were strictly work-related and fell within the scope of official duties.

Past controversies and reassignments

Vinod Kumar was earlier removed from his position as Pathanamthitta District Police Chief following his alleged involvement in several controversial cases, including Aranmula POCSO case tampering incident. Subsequently, he was reassigned to a key position in the office of the ADGP (Law & Order).
