Case booked against ASI for driving police vehicle in inebriated state and causing accident

Malappuram: Local people apprehended a Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) for causing an accident while driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred the other day within the jurisdiction of the Malappuram Makkada police station.

ASI Gopi Mohanan of the Malappuram police station allegedly operated the police jeep after consuming alcohol, resulting in a collision with a car. He fled the scene without stopping and also hit motorcycle riders before speeding away. Alerted by the bikers, locals chased the vehicle and informed the police about the incident.

The locals intercepted the vehicle and confronted the ASI, who claimed he could drive away. However, they confiscated the vehicle key, preventing him from leaving the scene. The matter was reported to the Malappuram SP office and the Makkada police took the ASI into custody and shifted him to the police station.

A case was registered based on the complaint filed by the car driver involved in the collision, charging the ASI with driving a government vehicle while intoxicated.
