Auto driver who brandished sword at private bus arrested in Kondotty

Malappuram: Police arrested an autorickshaw driver who swung his sword at a private bus after it honked its horn. The incident occurred in Kondotty, Malappuram. The arrested person, Shamsuddeen, hails from Valiyaparamba and was apprehended at Aikkarappadi on Sunday. According to police reports, Shamsuddeen claimed he was carrying the sword to sharpen it. Feeling irritated and provoked by the bus coming from behind his autorickshaw closely and honking aggressively, he swung his sword at the bus in response.
The incident took place on a Friday evening at Pulikkal, Kondotty. The bus, traveling from Kozhikode to Manjeri, was attempting to overtake the autorickshaw. As Shamsuddeen refused to give way, the bus honked the horn repeatedly which irritated Shamsuddeen. Irked over the repeated honking of the horn, Shamsuddeen took out the sword and brandished it against the bus.
The bus staff subsequently lodged a complaint with the Kondotty police. A video capturing the autorickshaw driver wielding a sword in broad daylight went viral on social media.
The incident began when the autorickshaw overtook the bus as it paused to drop off a passenger at a bus stop. When the bus driver honked, Shamsuddeen responded by brandishing his sword. He continued to wave the weapon for about three kilometers, from Kondotty to Kolappuram.
Shamsuddeen will be produced before the court on Monday.
