Assembly ruckus case: HC rejects Sivankutty's plea seeking stay on proceedings in trial court

Kochi: Education minister V Sivankutty and other accused in the Kerala assembly ruckus case faced a major setback after the High Court rejected their plea. The High Court here on Friday declined to hear a petition filed by the accused requesting to stay proceedings of the trial court in the assembly ruckus case. The court also dismissed the demand to postpone the reading of the charge sheet.
With HC dismissing the petitions, Sivankutty and the other accused in the case must appear before the court on September 16. The trial proceedings into the case are in progress at Thiruvananthapuram Magistrate Court. The high court also directed petitioners not to table technical arguments in court.
Besides V Sivankutty, LDF convener EP Jayarajan, KT Jaleel MLA, and two others are booked in the case. The incident happened during the tenure of the UDF government when LDF members created a ruckus inside the Kerala assembly when finance minister MM Mani was trying to present the budget.
