Thiruvananthapuram: The CJM court has granted permission for further probe into the 2015 assembly ruckus case. A few days ago, the crime branch submitted a petition to the court seeking renewed probe into the matter. The police's apparent tactical move came when the trial in the case is about to begin. Interestingly, it also came after the police completed the probe and submitted a charge sheet to the court.

It was alleged that this move was aimed at indefinitely prolonging the trial. The court ordered that the investigation be completed within 60 days and also instructed that the progress of the same be shared with the court every 3 weeks.

There are six accused in the case including Minister V Sivankutty, former Ministers KT Jaleel, and EP Jayarajan. If the trial progress, it might pose a challenge to Sivankutty.

Congress filed a caveat alleging that this is a ploy to save Sivankutty from the trial. The court had also criticised the crime branch's move.
