No trace of Arjun's lorry on landslide-hit area: Army

Amkola (Karnataka): The army team involved in rescue operations in the landslide-affected area of Shirur has officially confirmed that the lorry, driven by Arjun from Kozhikode, is not located beneath the mud-covered land area. 

However, the team reported that they received a signal from another location along the river bank. The army also stated that they thoroughly searched areas recommended by Arjun's family.

The search for Arjun was briefly marred by a disagreement between Malayali rescue workers and Karnataka police. The verbal dispute ensued after the Karnataka Police informed that only 20 Malayalis could participate in the rescue operation.

The authorities have stressed that 20 workers from Kerala are deemed sufficient for ongoing operations as the region is facing heavy rainfall and there is a chance for another landslide to hit the area. 

Several residents of the Ankola region took shelter at care centres in Shirur village on Friday as the landslide continued to spread havoc in the region.

The Regional Met Centre of Bengaluru has issued a red alert for rainfalls in Uttara Kannada district for July 20, while there's an orange alert for July 21. It has also issued a red alert for Shimoga, Udupi, and Chikmagalur for July 20.
