Aluva rape and murder case: Justice delivered to our student, says school principal

Kochi: While schools in the rest of the country celebrate Children’s Day on Tuesday, there wasn’t any celebration in the Thaikkattukara Lower Primary School in Aluva. The five-year-old girl, who was raped and murdered by a migrant worker named Asfaq Alam, studied at the same school.
On Tuesday, the students and teachers were awaiting the court to pronounce the quantum of sentence for Asfaq Alam, nearly four months after the incident that sent shock waves across the State.
School Principal K. Jasmine revealed that the children were curious to know the punishment to be awarded to the person who killed their dear friend. As the Ernakulam POCSO Court pronounced the death sentence to Asfaq Alam, it came as a massive relief to the grieving students as well as the staff.
“She received the justice. No child shall face a similar fate. We remain worried until all the students reach their homes safely after school. We constantly interact with their parents. We contact them if a student is absent from school” said K Jasmine.
