Air Kerala’s first domestic flight from Kochi to take off in June

Nedumbassery: Air Kerala, a Malayali venture, is set to commence domestic flight operations in June. The airline will launch its first service from Kochi, with the Kochi International Airport serving as its hub.

The initial phase will utilise five leased aircraft, each with a 76-seat capacity. An agreement has already been signed with an Irish company to provide the aircraft. Representatives of Air Kerala said at a press conference that while acquiring planes is relatively straightforward, the main challenge lies in recruiting enough pilots.

Air Kerala has ambitious plans to acquire 20 aircraft within the next two years. The airline also aims to expand into international services. In addition to connecting major cities, the airline seeks to reach smaller towns across South India. The company plans to offer services at the lowest possible fares, encouraging more people to opt for air travel.

The announcement of the airline's hub was made at a ceremony held at Kochi International Airport, presided over by Minister P. Rajeev. The event was attended by MPs Hibi Eden and Haris Beeran, MLA Anwar Sadath, CIAL Airport Director G. Manu, Air Kerala Chairman Afi Ahmed, Vice Chairman Ayub Kallada, and CEO Harish Moideen Kutty.
