Who is Satish Golcha?: New Delhi Police Commissioner replacing SBK Singh after 21 days

New Delhi: Senior IPS officer Satish Golcha has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police, Delhi, replacing SBK Singh, who held the post for just 21 days. Singh was given additional charge on August 1, but his unusually short tenure ended with Thursday’s order from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

“With the approval of the Competent Authority, Sh. Satish Golcha, IPS (AGMUT: 1992), presently posted as Director General (Prisons), Delhi, is hereby appointed to the post of the Commissioner of Police, Delhi with effect from the date of assumption of charge and until further orders,” the order stated.

Golcha will replace SBK Singh, Director General of Home Guards, who was appointed as acting commissioner of Delhi Police by the Home Ministry on August 1. The development comes a day after Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta was attacked at a weekly public hearing at her official residence in Civil Lines.

Gupta was attacked by a 41-year-old man from Rajkot, Gujarat, who entered the venue posing as a complainant. The accused, Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai Sakriya, an auto driver by profession, was swiftly overpowered by the CM’s security team along with others present at the spot.

Who is Satish Golcha?

A 1992-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, Golcha is known for his firm policing style and administrative expertise. He has served in several key capacities within the Delhi Police, including DCP, Joint Commissioner, and Special Commissioner.

As Special CP (Intelligence), Golcha played a critical role in managing law and order during the northeast Delhi riots, a stern test of his leadership.

Before being appointed as Delhi Police Commissioner, Golcha was serving as Director General (Prisons), Delhi, a post he took over last year following the retirement of Sanjay Beniwal. Earlier, he also headed the force in Arunachal Pradesh as Director General of Police.
