US Secretary of State Rubio hails India-US ties on Independence Day

New York/ Washington: India and the United States, “working together”, will confront the modern challenges of today and secure a brighter future for both nations, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated, describing the “historic relationship” between New Delhi and Washington as “significant and far-reaching.”
On behalf of the US, Rubio extended congratulations and warm regards to the people of India on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day on Friday.
“The historic relationship between the world’s largest democracy and the world’s oldest democracy is significant and far-reaching. Working together, the United States and India will rise to the challenges of today and ensure a brighter future for both our countries,” Rubio said in his message.
Rubio added that the two nations are united by “our shared vision for a more peaceful, prosperous, and secure Indo-Pacific region,” with the partnership between India and the US spanning various industries, fostering innovation, advancing critical and emerging technologies, and extending into space.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had held bilateral talks with President Trump in Washington, DC, in February. In a joint statement, the two leaders had announced their intention to negotiate the first phase of a multi-sector Bilateral Agreement (BTA) by autumn 2025. However, trade relations have been strained in recent weeks, after President Trump announced a 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods starting 27 August.
