Twisha Sharma cremated in Bhopal after second postmortem

Bhopal: The last rites of former model-actor Twisha Sharma were performed at Bhadbhada Ghat in Bhopal at around 5 pm on Sunday, following a second postmortem conducted by a four-member team from All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi in Bhopal.
Twisha Sharma, aged 32, was found dead on May 12 at her matrimonial home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. Her family has accused her husband and in-laws of harassment linked to dowry demands.
Moments before the cremation, Twisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma said, “I am very emotional right now. I just want to bid farewell to my daughter first.”
Husband and mother-in-law kept away from cremation
Family members stated that Twisha Sharma’s husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh were not permitted to attend the cremation ceremony.
The family has alleged that both Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh subjected Twisha Sharma to harassment over dowry-related issues.
The allegations have intensified public attention around the case, particularly because Giribala Singh is a retired judge and Samarth Singh is a practising lawyer.
Family sought second postmortem through high court
Following concerns over the initial investigation and postmortem findings, Twisha Sharma’s family approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court bench in Jabalpur seeking a second postmortem examination.
Acting on the court’s directions, the procedure was conducted under security arrangements at All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhopal.
Earlier, Navnidhi Sharma had expressed confidence in the medical team conducting the examination.
“We are hopeful that the team will work out good findings because the whole point of a second postmortem is if someone feels something is missing,” he had said.
Samarth Singh arrested
Samarth Singh was arrested in Jabalpur on Friday after remaining absconding for several days following the incident.
A local court in Bhopal later remanded him to seven days of police custody from May 23 to May 29 for further interrogation.
The investigation continues amid growing scrutiny over the handling of the case.
Family demands accountability
Twisha Sharma’s relative Ashish Sharma also made strong remarks against the accused family during the developments surrounding the second postmortem.
“They themselves are responsible for this entire accident, so if they come forward with honesty and truth, they should clearly state their facts. That would be enough for them, because now that compensation cannot be made,” he said.
His remarks came while the AIIMS medical team was conducting the second postmortem examination in Bhopal.
Supreme Court takes suo motu cognisance
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of India on Saturday registered a suo motu case titled ‘In Re Alleged Institutional Bias and Procedural Discrepancies in the Unnatural Death of a Young Woman at Matrimonial Home’.
