TN polls 2026: DMK headquarters sees dismantling of arrangements as TVK takes early lead in trends

Chennai: Early counting trends in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election have indicated a shifting political picture, with Vijay’s TVK taking a surprise lead in 82 seats, ahead of the DMK, which is leading in 45 constituencies, according to initial updates.

At the DMK headquarters in Chennai, a subdued atmosphere prevailed as counting progressed. Party cadres were seen gradually winding down arrangements, with shamiyana structures being dismantled and chairs removed, reflecting a cautious mood amid the early numbers.

Despite the developments, officials and party workers have not made any formal comments on the trends, as counting continues across the state and final outcomes are yet to be declared. The NDA alliance also remains in contention in several constituencies as the vote tallying process enters crucial rounds.

Counting is underway across 823 constituencies in key regions including West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Keralam, Assam, and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

The process begins with postal ballots, followed by counting of Electronic Voting Machines from 8:30 am, with round-wise results being updated in real time on the ECINET platform and the Election Commission's official portal.

Security has been tightened across all counting centres ahead of the process.

As the counting began, patrolling was being carried out with armoured vehicles in West Bengal's Malda. Meanwhile, several strong rooms swiftly opened across Keralam, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, before the beginning of counting procedure.
