The Indian Railways is set to strengthen long-distance connectivity between southern and eastern India with the launch of three new Amrit Bharat trains on Saturday.

Designed as affordable, non-air-conditioned alternatives to premium services, these trains aim to provide improved comfort and convenience for passengers travelling between Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

Which new routes are being launched?

The Indian Railways will introduce three new Amrit Bharat train services on Saturday, improving affordable long-distance rail connectivity between Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. The new weekly services will operate on the Jalpaiguri–Tiruchirappalli, Tambaram–Chandrakachi, and Nagercoil–Jalpaiguri routes.

What is the purpose of Amrit Bharat trains?

Amrit Bharat trains are a non-air-conditioned alternative to premium services like Vande Bharat Express. They are designed to offer enhanced passenger comfort at economical fares, making long-distance travel accessible to all sections of society.

How will the trains operate?

  • Nagercoil–Jalpaiguri Amrit Bharat Express (Train No. 20604): Departs Rangapani at 1:45 pm on Saturday, arriving in Nagercoil at 7:15 pm on January 19. Major stops in Tamil Nadu include Katpadi, Coimbatore, Madurai, and Tirunelveli.
  • Jalpaiguri–Tiruchirappalli Amrit Bharat Express (Train No. 20610): Departs Jalpaiguri at 1:45 pm on Saturday, reaching Tiruchirappalli at 2:15 pm on January 19, stopping at Egmore, Tambaram, Villupuram, Thanjavur, and others.
  • Tambaram–Chandrakachi Amrit Bharat Express (Train No. 16107): Starts Sunday at 2:45 pm from Chandrakachi, reaching Tambaram at 6:45 pm the same day.

Where and when will the trains be flagged off?

The official launch ceremony will take place at Rangapani railway station in West Bengal, marking the start of these new Amrit Bharat services.

The additional trains are expected to benefit thousands of passengers by providing reliable, affordable, and improved rail connectivity between southern and eastern India, complementing existing services and boosting travel options.

Railway officials have stated that detailed notifications regarding regular operational schedules will be released separately to guide passengers.
