Will Chennai get rain? Latest weather forecast for Tamil Nadu

Chennai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Tamil Nadu weather forecast predicting heavy rainfall in Western Ghats districts, even as northern parts of the state, including Chennai, are expected to remain largely dry on Monday.
According to the IMD, heavy rain in Tamil Nadu is likely at isolated locations in the hilly regions of Virudhunagar, Theni, and Dindigul districts, particularly in higher-altitude areas along the Western Ghats.
Rainfall alert for Southern Tamil Nadu and Western Ghats
The weather department said southern Tamil Nadu rainfall activity will include light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across several districts bordering the Western Ghats.
The Western Ghats rainfall alert specifically highlights the possibility of heavy showers in one or two places in Virudhunagar, Theni, and Dindigul, prompting caution for residents in vulnerable and low-lying areas.
Authorities have advised people in hilly regions to remain alert for waterlogging, slippery roads, and sudden weather changes, especially in areas prone to heavy downpours.
Dry weather in Chennai and Northern Tamil Nadu
In contrast, northern Tamil Nadu weather conditions are expected to remain dry, with no significant rainfall activity forecast for the day. This includes Chennai weather, as well as adjoining districts and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
The IMD said the region will continue to experience hot and humid weather, with a gradual increase in temperatures.
