Heavy rain forecast in Tamil Nadu till November 11; schools shut in Tirupattur

Chennai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Tamil Nadu until November 11 due to a persistent upper-air cyclonic circulation over the state’s interior regions.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai, several districts in central and western Tamil Nadu are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall over the coming days. Moisture from the Bay of Bengal is feeding the weather system, resulting in intermittent showers.
For Thursday (November 6), heavy rain is expected at isolated places in: Ariyalur, Perambalur, Tiruchirapalli, Kallakurichi, and Tiruvannamalai
Parts of Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, and Tirupattur may also see intense rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
On Friday (November 7), the rain belt is likely to shift southwards, with heavy showers predicted in:
Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Theni, and Dindigul
Residents and fishermen in these districts have been advised to remain cautious due to the risk of flooding in low-lying areas.
Chennai weather
In Chennai, the sky is expected to stay mostly cloudy, with light to moderate rain in some areas. While no major rainfall warning has been issued for the city, brief showers and drizzles may occur during the evening and early morning hours.
Following continuous rain since early Thursday morning, Tirupattur District Collector Siva Soundiravalli declared a holiday for all schools in the district as a precaution. However, colleges will remain open, the collector clarified.
Officials from the Disaster Management Department said district administrations have been instructed to remain on high alert and ensure preparedness in flood-prone and waterlogging areas.
