Chennai: In the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, the “magic number” required for any party or alliance to form the government is 118 seats. As per Election Commission trends, Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is currently headings to a majority mark.

Early indications suggest a significant political shift in the state, with TVK putting up a strong performance in multiple constituencies. According to trends, TVK chief Vijay is ahead in key seats including Perambur and Trichy East, as per analytics portal PValue and Election Commission of India updates.

Security has been tightened outside TVK leader Vijay’s residence and party office in Chennai, reported news agency ANI, amid rising attention on the party’s strong early showing.

TVK national spokesperson Felix Gerald expressed confidence that the party would cross the majority mark and form the government. Speaking to PTI Videos, he said:

“They may have experience of 50 or 75 years, but they have got experience only in looting the state,” Gerald said, adding that the electorate trusts TVK as the alternative.

Responding to questions about Vijay’s limited media interaction during the campaign, Gerald added that the leader prefers “talking directly to the people” rather than through the media. He also dismissed earlier criticism about the party’s prospects, pointing to voter turnout as evidence of support.

Taking a swipe at the DMK, he remarked, “They were closing their eyes and running in a dark room. Now they will understand the world they live in”.

As counting continues, all eyes remain on whether TVK can convert its strong early leads into a majority and cross the crucial 118-seat mark needed to form the government in Tamil Nadu.
