With Rahul Gandhi’s support, Sultanpur cobbler launches 'Ramchet Mochi' brand

Sultanpur: Ramchet, a cobbler from Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, is on the path to becoming an entrepreneur with the launch of his own brand, ‘Ramchet Mochi’. This transformation has been made possible with the support of Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha and Congress MP from Rae Bareli, who provided him with a machine to advance his craft.
Encouragement from Rahul Gandhi
Last month, Rahul Gandhi invited Ramchet to 10, Janpath in Delhi, where he personally presented his handcrafted slippers to Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. More recently, Ramchet was flown to Mumbai to meet Sudheer Rajbhar, founder of design brand Chamar Studio. The visit proved to be a turning point, offering him new insights into the leather industry.
Inspired by Rajbhar’s globally recognised leather business, Ramchet gained exposure to innovative designs and modern techniques.
“I saw innovative designs for bags and sandals, many made from wood and rubber. I also experimented with machine-based designs. Rahul Gandhi and Sudheer Rajbhar appreciated my craftsmanship and encouraged me to take my work to the next level,” he said.
Expanding the business
Upon returning to Babuganj, Ramchet has been working towards expanding his business. He has set up a machine in a rented space and is collaborating with two to three artisans. His son has also started training under him, joining the work for a few hours each day to learn the trade.
A Journey towards success
Previously earning just Rs 100-150 from shoe repairs, Ramchet now claims to make thousands every month. With the continued support and encouragement from Rahul Gandhi and Sudheer Rajbhar, he is determined to establish ‘Ramchet Mochi’ as a recognised brand.
