Soon, you may be able to pre-book your airport security slot

So far, air travellers have experienced the digital wave at airports, from web check-ins to DigiYatra, from online lounge bookings to ordering pre-flight meals. But soon, there may be something even more useful: The option to pre-book your security check slot, cutting down waiting time and making air travel smoother and stress-free.
This initiative is part of the Adani Airports Holdings Ltd (AAHL) digital roadmap. The group, which operates eight airports in India, is investing heavily in technology to improve passenger experience, optimise operations, and increase efficiency.
Last year, AAHL launched a digital platform called aviio, designed to enhance collaboration among all airport stakeholders, from airlines to the CISF and immigration authorities. By sharing real-time data and insights, the system helps manage disruptions like flight delays or gate changes more effectively.
“We are deploying video analytics and data analytics on kerbside and inside terminals to manage queues,” said Ekta Ghosh, Chief Digital Officer at AAHL. Tokenisation trials are also underway, which will allow faster processing of passengers.
Along with the proposed security slot booking, Adani Airports is working on:
•Bag drop facilities for DigiYatra-enabled passengers.
•Improved aircraft turnaround systems, which will help reduce delays.
•A single customer contact centre for all eight Adani-run airports, including the soon-to-open Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). This will be available in multiple Indian and foreign languages and linked to social media for faster grievance redressal.
The much-awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport, set to open on September 30, 2025, will be digital-first from its first day of operations. Airport entry passes, driving permits, and other employee documents will be available on a dedicated app, ensuring paperless and efficient processes.
AAHL has also created an “Airport in a Box” model, a plug-and-play tech system with harmonised digital infrastructure. This ensures that future expansions or even new airports can be seamlessly integrated without operational disruptions.
The air passenger traffic in India is swelling. Just today MoCA Ram Mohan Naidu has confirmed that air passenger traffic that was 11 crore in 2014 has now swelled to 25 crores and counting. With air traffic in India growing faster than airport capacity, technology is becoming the key to reducing congestion and improving efficiency. From digital twins to AI-driven queue management, Adani Airports aims to ensure passengers enjoy seamless, easy, and happy journeys.
