Terror plot on Ram Mandir? Gujarat ATS foils attack, nabs suspect

A 19-year-old suspect, Abdul Rehman, was arrested in a high-stakes raid in Faridabad, Haryana, for allegedly plotting a terror attack on the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The operation was carried out by a joint team of the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), the Faridabad Special Task Force (STF), and the Intelligence Bureau (IB). Rehman had reportedly been living in Pali village under a false identity.

Authorities recovered two hand grenades, ammunition, and radical material from Rehman. The grenades were defused following his arrest on Sunday, after which he was taken to Gujarat for further interrogation. Security agencies also seized suspicious videos containing sensitive details related to locations and religious aspects.

Why was the Ram Mandir a target?
Intelligence sources suggest that Rehman was linked to a terrorist organisation through social media, leading to the operation to track his movements. Reports indicate that the Ram Mandir was on his target list, prompting security agencies to heighten security in Ayodhya. The arrest comes after the temple witnessed a large influx of devotees during the Kumbh. Security forces remain on high alert to prevent any potential threats.

Gujarat ATS sources revealed that a terrorist organisation had become active in Ahmedabad, spreading fear. Intelligence reports had indicated the presence of two suspects in Haryana, one of whom was identified as Rehman. However, no details have been disclosed about the second suspect.

Investigators are now tracing Rehman’s local contacts to determine whether he was part of a larger conspiracy. Authorities are also probing his possession of grenades and the possible involvement of other individuals. The case remains under active investigation, with central agencies continuing their operations.
