Delhi blast probe: NIA secures 10-day custody of bomber’s aide Jasir Bilal

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday obtained 10-day custody of Jasir Bilal Wani, alleged to be a key aide in the Delhi suicide bombing that killed 15 people near the Red Fort last week. Jasir, also known as Danish, was produced before the Patiala House Court in Delhi, which granted the agency extended custody to pursue further interrogation.
Jasir Bilal Wani was presented before the Patiala House Court in Delhi on Tuesday afternoon. The court granted the NIA 10 days of custodial interrogation following submissions that Jasir’s role was central to the technical preparations for the attack.
Background: Deadly Red Fort blast
The high-intensity blast occurred last week near Delhi’s historic Red Fort, where a car exploded, killing 15 people and injuring several others. Authorities described the incident as one of the most serious terror attacks in the capital in recent years. On Sunday, the NIA confirmed the arrest of Amir Ali, calling it the first significant breakthrough in the case. Ali is believed to have worked closely with the bomber and assisted in operational planning.
Jasir’s alleged role in terror preparations
According to the NIA, Jasir was responsible for providing technical expertise, including modifying drones for surveillance or potential explosive delivery and attempting to construct makeshift rockets. Investigators believe he was integral to the planning stage and maintained close coordination with Umar un Nabi. The NIA stated that it is pursuing several leads and conducting searches in multiple states to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy. Teams are examining electronic devices, communication channels and potential sleeper cell connections.
The anti-terror agency has stressed that more suspects may be identified as the investigation progresses. The NIA is also assessing whether any external groups provided guidance, funding or material support.
