New Aadhaar app launching Jan 28: Update mobile number, address online

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is set to launch the full version of its new Aadhaar app on January 28, bringing major upgrades in digital identity verification, privacy protection, and Aadhaar services online. The announcement was confirmed by UIDAI on X, calling the app a safer and more convenient way to use Aadhaar without carrying a physical card.
With the updated app, users can access their Aadhaar card on mobile, share details securely, and even update Aadhaar information from home, making it one of the most user-friendly government apps launched in recent years.
No physical Aadhaar card needed
Once logged in using the mobile number linked to Aadhaar, users can view their complete Aadhaar profile inside the app. This eliminates the need to carry laminated cards or photocopies, as digital Aadhaar verification can now be done directly from the phone.
The app is available on both Android and iOS platforms.
Strong privacy features
The new Aadhaar app follows a privacy-first model, allowing users to hide personal details such as full address, date of birth, or Aadhaar number while sharing proof. UIDAI has stated that organisations like hotels and event venues should only verify identity and not store personal data, helping prevent misuse.
Update Aadhaar mobile number & address online
Users can change their registered mobile number without visiting an Aadhaar centre and update their Aadhaar address online by uploading valid documents.
This upgrade is expected to save time, reduce queues, and improve access for people in remote areas.
Earlier versions of the app had limited access, but from January 28, all features will be unlocked. Users will have complete control over their Aadhaar profile, making the app a one-stop solution for Aadhaar update, verification and digital identity services.
