Navi Mumbai International Airport crosses one lakh passengers in first month

Navi Mumbai: The newly opened Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has recorded a strong start, handling more than one lakh passengers in less than a month of operations. It has become the second operational airport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
Between December 25 and January 12, NMIA handled a total of 1,09,917 passengers, with 55,934 arrivals and 53,983 departures. The busiest day was January 10, when 7,345 passengers passed through the airport. During this period, the airport recorded 734 air traffic movements, including 32 general aviation flights, and handled 22.21 tonnes of cargo. Popular routes for travellers included Delhi, Goa, and Bengaluru.
For comparison, CSMIA handled 55.5 million passengers in 2025, with its highest single-day traffic reaching 1,75,925 travellers on November 29. NMIA is expected to reduce congestion at CSMIA and support the growing aviation demand in the Mumbai region.
Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings Limited, said the airport aims to handle 12 million passengers annually by the financial year 2026–27, with plans to expand capacity to 20 million passengers in the future. NMIA is being developed by Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd (NMIAL), a joint venture between Adani Airport Holdings Limited, which holds a 74% stake, and CIDCO, the Maharashtra government’s development agency, which owns the remaining 26%.
The airport continues to expand its services while maintaining high standards of safety and customer service. “With modern infrastructure, streamlined processes and a strong focus on operational efficiency, NMIA is scaling up its services in a calibrated manner while maintaining high standards of safety, service quality and passenger experience,” the airport said in an official statement.
