Nandigram Election 2026: Suvendu Adhikari crushes TMC challenge to retain Bengal’s rural heart

Kolkata: Suvendu Adhikari, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) incumbent, has secured a significant lead in the Nandigram constituency as the final round of counting concluded Monday night.

According to data from the Election Commission, Adhikari garnered 127,301 votes after the 19th and final round of tabulation. He leads Pabitra Kar of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), who received 117,636 votes, by a margin of 9,665.

As of 9:30 p.m., the statewide "saffron surge" has reached a definitive peak. The BJP has officially secured 177 seats and is maintaining leads in 31 others, well beyond the 148-seat majority requirement. The TMC has won 61 seats and holds leads in 18.

The 2026 electoral cycle in Nandigram was characterised by an expansive voter turnout and ongoing local instability. Following the commencement of polling on April 23, the constituency served as a focal point for regional tension, with numerous reports of physical altercations documented during the voting window.
