Tamil Nadu elections 2026: MK Stalin declares Rs 6.26 crore in assets

Chennai: DMK President M K Stalin on Monday officially filed his nomination from the Kolathur constituency for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled on April 23. In his affidavit, Stalin declared movable and immovable assets totalling over Rs 6.26 crore.

Breakdown of assets

According to the affidavit notarised on March 30, the 72-year-old leader’s movable assets are valued at Rs 3.30 crore. His immovable properties have a combined market value of Rs 2.96 crore, which includes self-acquired properties worth Rs 2.70 crore and inherited assets valued at Rs 25.98 lakh.

Stalin’s wife, Durga Stalin, has declared movable assets of Rs 1.32 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 2.11 crore.

Income details

For the financial year 2024–2025, Stalin reported a total income of Rs 30.94 lakh, which includes his salary as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, interest from bank deposits, and book royalties. His spouse declared an income of Rs 5.33 lakh, primarily from rental earnings.

Clean record and liabilities

The affidavit confirms that Stalin has no criminal cases pending, has never been convicted, and has no outstanding liabilities to banks, financial institutions, or government agencies.

Education and profession

Under the educational qualifications section, Stalin listed a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Presidency College, Madras University, completed in 1973. His profession is officially stated as Public Service.

Comparison with 2021 election affidavit

In comparison with his nomination papers filed for the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Stalin’s movable assets have decreased from Rs 4.94 crore in 2021 to Rs 3.30 crore in 2026. Meanwhile, the value of his immovable properties has grown from Rs 2.24 crore in 2021 to Rs 2.96 crore this election cycle.

Durga Stalin’s movable assets show a remarkable increase. In 2021, her movable assets were Rs 30.52 lakh, including Rs 24.77 lakh in old gold jewellery, which has now risen to over Rs 1.32 crore in 2026.
