‘Thank you for the love’: Mahua Moitra posts message of gratitude after marrying Pinaki Misra

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Wednesday acknowledged her marriage to former BJD MP and senior advocate Pinaki Misra with a message of gratitude on social media.

After days of speculation, TMC MP Mahua Moitra on Wednesday publicly confirmed her marriage to Pinaki Misra. In a brief post on X, formerly Twitter, she wrote:

“Thank you everyone for the love and good wishes!! So grateful.”

The post follows reports that Moitra, 50, married Misra, 65, in a private ceremony in Germany on May 30.

Ceremony held in Germany, no official statement earlier

Although neither Moitra nor Misra issued an official statement earlier, sections of the media had reported that the two tied the knot in Germany on May 30. Both have remained private about the ceremony.

Some colleagues from Trinamool Congress and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) had said they were unaware of the development when contacted by reporters.

Wishes pour in

Despite the lack of an official announcement at the time, many extended congratulations online. Saayoni Ghosh, TMC MP from Jadavpur, posted on X:

“Congratulations Mm & Pm… Mahua Moitra, Pinaki Misra, wishing you a lifetime of love and laughter!”

Moitra’s political and personal background

An investment banker-turned-politician, Mahua Moitra is serving her second term as the Member of Parliament from Krishnanagar, West Bengal. She previously served in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. Moitra was earlier married to Danish financier Lars Brorson.

Pinaki Misra’s profile

Pinaki Misra is a senior Supreme Court advocate and a four-time Lok Sabha MP from Puri, Odisha. He was earlier married to Sangeeta Misra, with whom he has two children.

Controversy and political comeback

Moitra had faced expulsion from the Lok Sabha in December 2023 following allegations that she took “cash” and “gifts” from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to raise questions in Parliament.

The complaint was filed by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, citing a letter from Moitra’s former partner, advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, which claimed to include “irrefutable” proof of misconduct. Moitra denied the bribery charges, but admitted to sharing her Lok Sabha login details with Hiranandani’s staff.

Despite the controversy, she contested and won the 2024 general election from Krishnanagar again, defeating her rival by a margin of over 56,000 votes.
