Karnataka lecturer booked for sexually harassing engineering student in Mysuru

Mysuru, Karnataka: A lecturer at an engineering college in Mysuru district has been booked on charges of sexually harassing a student, police said on Sunday.
The case was registered at Jayalakshmipuram police station in Mysuru city. The FIR has been filed under Sections 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 75(2) (sexual harassment), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused lecturer has been identified as Bharat Bhargava.
In her complaint, the student alleged that the accused tried to lure her with promises of good marks in exams and assurance of help in securing a good job. She stated that the lecturer made “some objectionable comments” and threatened her with dire consequences when she raised objections to his behaviour.
He allegedly blackmailed her, saying that if she did not listen to him, he would ensure that she failed in the exam. The student has demanded strict action against the accused.
