Bengaluru: A viral video from Bengaluru has left the internet both amused and alarmed after a pillion rider was seen using a kadhai (deep cooking pot) as a makeshift helmet. While many viewers found humour in the bizarre sight, road safety advocates and authorities stressed the life-saving importance of wearing certified helmets, reminding everyone that safety gear is not a prop for social media stunts.

Bengaluru’s traffic has seen its share of unusual moments, but this one stood out. The clip, initially shared by Karnataka Portfolio on X, showed a two-wheeler weaving through heavy traffic near Roopena Agrahara. The rider was properly helmeted, but his pillion companion had balanced a large kadhai on his head, apparently substituting it for protective headgear.

Social media reactions: From laughter to concern

Online responses ranged from light-hearted jokes to stern warnings. Some users hailed it as “innovation at its best,” while others quipped, “When life gives you a challan, get a kadhai.”

However, many also voiced concern over the unsafe act, noting that people often skip helmets to avoid hair damage or for comfort, ignoring the real risk of fatal injuries. Several pointed out that construction helmets or household items can never replace certified protective gear designed for road use.

Police take note

According to India Today, Bengaluru Traffic Police noticed the clip and referred it to the Electronic City Traffic Police Station for further action.

A serious reminder behind the humour

Though the video amused many, it carried a sobering message about road safety. As Karnataka Portfolio aptly put it, helmets are “lifesavers, not props for viral reels.”

The incident highlights the need for consistent awareness about responsible riding, where every choice on the road can make the difference between life and tragedy.
