Srinagar: Security forces successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday, eliminating two terrorists in the process.

In an official statement, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army reported, “An infiltration attempt has been successfully prevented with the elimination of two terrorists today on #LoC in Keran Sector, #Kupwara.” The statement also noted that anti-infiltration operations are ongoing.

Earlier, two Indian Army soldiers sustained injuries during an encounter with terrorists in the Kastigarh area of Doda district. The soldiers received initial treatment at the government hospital in Doda and are currently being airlifted to an Army hospital via an Army helicopter.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for the Ramban-Doda Range, Shridhar Patil, visited the encounter site at Kashtigarh in Doda and provided an update: “A search operation is underway. I cannot share much information as our operation is in progress, but we are confident of success.”

This latest encounter follows a tragic event on July 15, when four army soldiers, including an officer, were killed in a firefight with terrorists in the Doda district. The joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police was initiated based on specific intelligence inputs. During the clash, Captain Brijesh Thapa, Naik D Rajesh, Sepoy Bijendra, and Sepoy Ajay Kumar Singh made the ultimate sacrifice.

On July 16, Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, Northern Army Commander, paid tribute to the fallen soldiers. “We honour the bravehearts Captain Brijesh Thapa, Naik D Rajesh, Sepoy Bijendra, and Sepoy Ajay Kumar Singh, who laid down their lives to ensure peace in the region during the counter-terrorist operation in Doda,” Lt Gen Kumar stated.
