Jaipur: A nine-year-old Class 4 student at the prestigious Neerja Modi School in Jaipur died by suicide on 1 November after allegedly being bullied for 18 months, according to a report by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The CBSE report stated that the student had been subjected to verbal abuse, including "bad words" and teasing with "sexual connotations," and that repeated complaints by her parents and class teacher were ignored.

"As per the statements of the parents given to the committee, it is clear that the school did not take any preventive and proactive action on the repeated complaint of bullying and teasing by the classmates. The class teacher and the school management were very well aware about the harassment and the trauma being faced by the deceased girl. The conversation and communications made by the parents to the class teacher and the school management went unheard," the CBSE report said.

The committee further highlighted serious safety violations at the school. The nine-year-old managed to reach the fourth floor of the building, despite her classroom being on the ground floor, and the campus lacked protective steel nets on higher floors. These lapses contributed to the tragic incident.

The report added, "It seems something unusual happened in class and she is looking extremely disturbed. Few hot discussions, among students, are also observed and it may be related to use of bad words and some derogatory comments as per parents’ observation and video footage."

Authorities said the violations and lack of preventive measures led to the loss of an "innocent child" who faced "unbearable trauma and mental harassment." The incident has sparked outrage and calls for stricter safety and anti-bullying measures in schools.
