Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has begun a new chapter in his personal life, marrying journalist Nidhi Razdan. The couple shared the news on social media on Saturday, October 31, posting pictures together a day after the wedding.

Abdullah announced the development through an Instagram post featuring a photograph with Razdan. “A new journey began yesterday,” he wrote, tagging her in the picture. Razdan also shared photographs with the Chief Minister, accompanying them with the caption, “It's done bro.”

But who is Nidhi Razdan?

An award-winning journalist and author, Nidhi Razdan is best known for her long association with NDTV, where she served as Executive Editor and became a familiar face to television audiences. She anchored the channel's popular prime-time programme ‘Left, Right & Centre’ and reported extensively on Indian politics, international affairs and developments in Jammu and Kashmir.

Over the course of her career, Razdan has covered major political and diplomatic developments across countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, China and Iran. Her work has earned her several honours, including the Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism.

She is also the author of ‘Left, Right & Centre: The Idea of India’, published in 2017.

Omar Abdullah's previous marriage

The wedding comes three months after the Supreme Court dissolved Omar Abdullah's marriage to his estranged wife, Payal Abdullah, by mutual consent.

On July 31, 2026, the court agreed to dissolve their marriage after both parties informed it that they had reached an understanding to settle their differences and withdraw the pending cases against each other. The proceedings followed Omar Abdullah's challenge to a Delhi High Court order that had refused to grant him a divorce.

The couple had approached the Supreme Court jointly, seeking the dissolution of their marriage under Article 142 of the Constitution. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal represented them during the proceedings.

Omar Abdullah and Payal married in 1994 after meeting while working at The Oberoi hotel in Delhi. They have two sons, Zahir and Zamir. The couple had been living separately since 2009, with their separation becoming public in 2011.
