IRCTC Vande Bharat staff caught fighting with belts, dustbins at Delhi station; 4 detained, fined ₹5 lakh | VIDEO

New Delhi: A violent scuffle broke out between members of the IRCTC staff aboard the 22470 Vande Bharat Express early Thursday morning at New Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, just minutes before its scheduled departure to Gwalior.
The altercation, which reportedly occurred around 5:45 am, has now gone viral on social media, with shocking footage showing staff members hitting each other with leather belts and public dustbins on the railway platform. The video, widely circulated online, captures one man lifting a dustbin and striking another man, while others join the fray, escalating the confrontation.
The fight appears to have erupted moments before passengers began boarding, though the exact reason for the altercation is yet to be confirmed.
What has further caught the internet’s attention is the intensity of the fight, where even dustbins became weapons. One such dustbin reportedly broke apart during the scuffle, drawing a mix of concern and amusement from viewers online.
The video has already crossed 105K views within five hours of being posted, sparking a flood of reactions across platforms. While many condemned the behaviour, others took a more humorous spin.
“IRCTC staff serving punches instead of paneer — premium service indeed!” quipped one user.
“Now I know why Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is important… even the dustbin got martyred in the fight,” another joked in Hindi.
“Maybe this is IRCTC’s new onboard entertainment feature,” one user commented sarcastically.
Others, however, expressed serious concern.
“Such behaviour is completely unacceptable and tarnishes the reputation of our rail services,” wrote one user.
IRCTC responds: Staff detained, IDs deactivated, penalty imposed
After the video went viral and public outrage grew, IRCTC released an official statement on Friday evening, confirming that the incident has been “viewed very seriously.”
“Four staff of service provider have been detained by RPF authorities for further investigation. All four staff's ID cards have been deactivated and they have been derostered,” the statement read.
Additionally, a show-cause notice for termination of the contract has been issued to the service provider, and a hefty penalty of Rs 5 lakh has been imposed.
