Mumbai: In a mishap involving IndiGo, an Airbus A321 aircraft operating from Bangkok suffered a tail strike at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Saturday. The incident occurred while the aircraft was executing a low-altitude go-around due to adverse weather conditions, the airline confirmed.

IndiGo assured that all passengers and crew members were safe following the incident.

According to an official statement from the airline, the tail of the aircraft made contact with the runway during the go-around manoeuvre. However, despite this occurrence, the aircraft successfully completed a subsequent approach and landed safely.

"On August 16, 2025, an IndiGo Airbus A321 experienced a tail strike while performing a low-altitude go-around in Mumbai due to unfavourable weather conditions. The aircraft then carried out another approach and landed safely," the statement read.

As per standard protocol, the aircraft will undergo the necessary checks, repairs, and regulatory clearance before resuming operations.

IndiGo reiterated that safety remains its top priority, emphasising, "At IndiGo, the safety of our customers, crew, and aircraft is our top priority. We are taking all necessary measures to minimise any operational disruptions arising from this incident."

The airline had previously shared a travel advisory through its official X (previously Twitter) handle, warning travellers of the Mumbai rains affecting roads. The advisory asked flyers to check their flight status and allow for extra travel time in arriving at the airport.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had recently flagged IndiGo for using “non-qualified” flight simulators to train around 1,700 pilots for operations at three critical airports – Kozhikode, Leh, and Kathmandu.
