Chandrapur, Maharashtra: A 20-year-old medical student who had secured a seat at AIIMS Gorakhpur following an impressive NEET performance tragically ended his life in Chandrapur on Tuesday morning.

The student, identified as Anurag Anil Borkar who earned admission to the prestigious medical college under the OBC quota, was found hanging in his room by his mother around 4 am. The family was preparing to travel to Gorakhpur later in the day to help him join the MBBS course.

A suicide note recovered from Anurag’s room indicated his unwillingness to pursue medical studies. In the note, he reportedly wrote, “I don't want to do MBBS. A businessman earns as much as a doctor. I don’t want to go through five years of study and then an MD.”

Sindewahi police station in-charge Kanchan Pandey confirmed the recovery of the note, saying, “We received information around 4 am that Anurag, son of Anil Borkar from Navargaon, had hanged himself in his room. A team rushed to the spot and initiated proceedings. A suicide note has been seized, which indicates that he was unable to handle the pressure of continuing medical studies.”

Anurag had with cleared NEET exam with a 99.99 percentile and secured an All India Rank of 1,475 this year. He had appeared for the exam twice, qualifying on his first attempt but opting to try again to gain admission into a college of his preference.

Neighbours described him as a bright student from an accomplished family. His sister was the district topper in Class 12 exams last year.
