A 24-year-old woman was killed in Haryana’s Ambala after a police officer, allegedly driving under the influence, crashed his car into an e-rickshaw near the Kali Paltan Bridge and then ran over her moments later. The victim was thrown onto the road in the impact and succumbed to her injuries.

Dr DD Pandey, Civil Hospital, said, "We received the body of a 25-year-old girl at around 9:30 PM last night. Her body has been shifted to the mortuary. The police are conducting an investigation."

Mayank, the brother of the deceased, said, "My elder sister was coming from Delhi. Her name is Nitika, and she works in Gurugram... A drunk police officer was driving the car, which ran over my sister..."

Public outrage after fatal accident

The incident sparked intense anger among residents, who gathered at the crash site and confronted the police officer. According to a report by Aaj Tak, locals detained the accused at the spot before handing him over to authorities.

The woman, identified as Nikita Bajaj, was taken to Ambala Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Witnesses allege officer was drunk

Eyewitnesses cited in the report alleged the officer was severely intoxicated and driving at high speed when he lost control of his vehicle, striking the e-rickshaw. The collision threw Nikita out of the vehicle, after which the officer’s car reportedly ran over her.

Bystanders quickly overpowered the officer and escorted him to the police station as anger grew among onlookers.

Media reports indicate that Nikita’s family has been staging a protest outside Ambala Civil Hospital, where her body was taken after the crash. Relatives have accused the police officer of causing her death and demanded strict action.

The police have not released an official statement regarding the incident.
