Disaster relief fund: Centre allocates ₹153 Cr for Wayanad, ₹455 Cr for Uttarakhand, ₹375 Cr for Assam

New Delhi: The Central Government has sanctioned a total of ₹1,066.80 crore in disaster relief funds to six states affected by recent floods and landslides, with Kerala’s Wayanad district allocated ₹153.20 crore from the Centre’s share under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).

According to data released by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the assistance is being extended to Kerala, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Uttarakhand, all of which experienced severe damage due to heavy monsoon rains and related natural calamities.

Among the total allocation, Assam has been granted ₹375.60 crore, Uttarakhand ₹455.60 crore, Manipur ₹29.20 crore, Meghalaya ₹30.40 crore and Mizoram ₹22.80 crore. Kerala, particularly the disaster-hit regions of Wayanad such as Mundakkai and Chooralmala, will receive ₹153.20 crore.

“These states have been affected due to extremely heavy rainfall, floods and landslides during the south-west monsoon of this year,” stated the MHA.

Emphasising the Centre’s continued support to states, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in a post on X, “...Today the central government has approved ₹1066.80 crore for flood- and landslide-affected states of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Kerala and Uttarakhand as part of the Central share under SDRF. More than ₹8000 crore from SDRF/NDRF funds has been provided to 19 states this year. Apart from financial aid, providing all logistic assistance, including deployment of requisite NDRF, Army and Air Force, has been our priority.”
 

MHA data also reveals that so far this year, ₹6,166.00 crore has been disbursed from the SDRF to 14 states and ₹1,988.91 cr has been released from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to 12 states.

In addition, ₹726.20 crore has been granted from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to five states, while ₹17.55 crore has been disbursed from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to two states.

The Centre has also ramped up on-the-ground support during the monsoon season, deploying 104 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams across 21 states and Union Territories for rescue and relief efforts.
