DGCA flags safety and compliance lapses at Akasa Air

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has identified several regulatory non-compliances at Akasa Air, including repeated procedural lapses and documentation issues, according to sources quoted by the Press Trust of India.
The findings emerged after the DGCA conducted a detailed review of the airline’s surveillance data for the April–September 2025 period.
The review focused on key operational areas such as flight safety, safety management systems, and flight duty time limitations, all critical components of an airline’s regulatory compliance framework.
Sources said the audit revealed multiple “non-conformities,” including repetitive procedural lapses, gaps in documentation, and systemic shortcomings in following regulatory norms.
Following the review, the DGCA instructed Akasa Air to take corrective measures and strengthen its internal systems to ensure full compliance with aviation safety standards.
In a statement, Akasa Air said it always provides detailed responses to every observation raised by the regulator within the stipulated timelines.
“The DGCA conducts routine audits across all airlines as part of its continuous efforts to uphold and enhance aviation safety standards in India,” the airline said.
“We remain committed to maintaining the highest levels of operational and safety excellence in line with all regulatory requirements.”
Akasa Air, which began operations just over three years ago, currently operates a fleet of 30 Boeing 737 aircraft. Despite the recent regulatory observations, the airline continues to expand both domestically and internationally.
Earlier this month, Akasa Air announced new non-stop flights to Abu Dhabi from Cochin and Chennai, as part of its growing international network. It also declared Delhi as its third operational base after Bengaluru and Chennai and plans to operate more than 165 weekly departures from the national capital.
