Delhi rains: House collapse kills woman, three children; husband escapes with injuries

New Delhi: A 28-year-old woman and her three young children lost their lives early Friday morning after their house in Delhi’s Najafgarh area collapsed during heavy rainfall and strong winds, officials confirmed.
According to authorities, a large neem tree toppled due to gusty winds and fell on the structure, causing the roof to cave in. The deceased have been identified as Jyoti and her children — Aryan (7), Rishabh (5), and Priyansh (7 months). Her husband, Ajay (30), survived the incident with minor injuries to his chest and wrist.
The tragic incident occurred in Kharkhari Nahar village near Jaffarpur Kalan. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka), Ankit Singh, said that a PCR call reporting the collapse was received at 5.26 am. “Upon arrival, we found that a neem tree had fallen on a room, trapping a family of five under the debris,” he said.
With assistance from the fire department, all five were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital, where four were declared dead. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said it responded promptly to the distress call at 5.25 am and dispatched multiple rescue teams to the site.
In a separate incident in the Chhawla area of Dwarka, another family sustained injuries when a wall collapsed in Paparawat village near Prahlad Mandir. The injured — Omprakash (41) and his sons Love (13) and Saurabh (15) — were taken to hospital and are reportedly out of danger.
Friday’s early morning storm, which included heavy rainfall, strong winds, and a dust storm, caused widespread disruption across the capital. Flight operations were affected, traffic came to a standstill due to waterlogging, and over 80 emergency calls — including reports of fallen trees — were received by the DFS since 5 am.
