Storm and rain expected in Delhi-NCR? IMD predicts unsettled weather likely in coming days

New Delhi: Residents of the Delhi-NCR region are set for a weather change as the India Meteorological Department forecasts strong winds, rain, and isolated thunderstorms on April 7 and 8.
The upcoming spell, attributed to an active western disturbance, is expected to bring cooler temperatures, cloudy skies, and gusty winds across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and surrounding areas.
Temperature forecast and rain prediction
On April 6, NCR weather conditions remain largely normal, with the minimum temperature recorded at 21°C and a maximum of 33°C.
- April 7: Min 20°C, Max 31°C
- April 8: Min 18°C, Max 31°C
The IMD has also predicted one or two spells of rain or thunderstorms during this period, providing partial relief from warm conditions. By April 9, skies are expected to be partly cloudy, with clearer weather and rising temperatures anticipated on April 10 and 11, when maximum temperatures may reach 33–34°C.
Impact of Western disturbance
The western disturbance is expected to intensify wind speeds and lower minimum temperatures by 2–3°C across the NCR and adjoining areas. Residents should prepare for slightly cooler mornings and evenings, along with gusty winds in open spaces.

Air quality improves, but some areas remain poor
Meanwhile, the air quality in Delhi-NCR has shown partial improvement. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board indicates over 90% of monitoring stations now fall under the “Yellow Zone” (Moderate category), offering relief to residents.
In Noida, Sector-125 recorded an AQI of 217 (Poor), while other areas reported better levels: Sector-62 at 120, Sector-1 at 134, and Sector-116 at 152.
In Delhi, AQI readings include Anand Vihar 212, Ashok Vihar 118, Bawana 143, Chandni Chowk 110, and RK Puram/CRRI Mathura Road 134. In Ghaziabad, AQI levels were 149 in Indirapuram, 167 in Sanjay Nagar, and 158 in Vasundhara.
Authorities anticipate further improvement in air quality due to incoming rain and strong winds, which are expected to clear particulate matter from the atmosphere.
Safety advisory
Residents are advised to:
- Exercise caution during strong wind spells
- Avoid open areas during thunderstorms
- Use masks if air quality temporarily worsens in urban hotspots
The Delhi-NCR weather forecast suggests a brief cool and wet spell, providing relief from rising temperatures and contributing to better air quality across the region.
