Delhi weather update: Airlines issue advisories as fog impacts flights

New Delhi: IndiGo and SpiceJet on Monday cautioned passengers about possible flight delays at Delhi airport as the season’s first spell of winter fog reduced visibility in the national capital.
IndiGo, India’s largest airline, said visibility around Indira Gandhi International Airport was low due to early morning fog, leading to slower operations. “Delhi is seeing its first hint of winter fog this morning, and visibility around the airport is currently reduced. As operations adjust to the changing weather, some flights may take a little longer to depart,” the airline said in a statement on X.
The airline advised travellers to plan ahead, noting that fog could also slow down road traffic. “We understand plans, schedules and connections matter, and we assure you that our teams remain available to support you throughout your journey. Road traffic may also be slower due to the fog, so we recommend allowing additional time while planning your journey to the airport,” IndiGo added.
SpiceJet issued a similar travel advisory, warning that poor visibility in Delhi (DEL) could impact all arrivals, departures and consequential flights. The airline urged passengers to regularly check their flight status through its official website.
Delhi airport authorities said flight operations are continuing despite the foggy conditions, but cautioned that services could be affected for aircraft not equipped for CAT III operations. CAT III, or Category III, refers to an advanced landing system that enables aircraft to operate safely during very low visibility conditions, including dense winter fog.
Passengers travelling through Delhi airport have been advised to stay updated on flight schedules and allow extra travel time as foggy weather conditions are expected to persist.
