Will Cyclone Montha also affect Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar? IMD’s major update

Digital Desk, New Delhi: Cyclone Montha is set to make landfall along the coast of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The cyclone, moving at an estimated speed of 100 kmph, is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to several eastern states, including Odisha and West Bengal.
Authorities in Andhra Pradesh have declared a coastal alert, with schools ordered to remain closed as a precautionary measure.
Several flights have been cancelled, and 54 trains under the Vijayawada division of the South Central Railway have also been suspended due to safety concerns.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for the districts of Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, and Mulugu, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
A yellow alert has been issued for other northeastern districts of the state. Meanwhile, Odisha is likely to experience widespread rain over the next two to three days, particularly in its coastal and southern regions.
While the cyclone’s main impact will be felt in Andhra Pradesh and neighboring states, its indirect effects will be visible in other parts of the country as well.
The Delhi-NCR region, under the influence of a Western Disturbance, is expected to witness light rain and thundershowers over the next two days, keeping the weather pleasant and cloudy.
According to IMD forecasts, Bihar—which shares a border with Odisha—is likely to feel a moderate impact from Cyclone Montha, while Uttar Pradesh may experience scattered showers.
Several districts in eastern UP, including Banda and Lucknow, have already reported light rainfall.
In Lucknow, the maximum temperature dropped by 3.8°C to 28°C, offering respite from the heat, though the minimum temperature rose by six degrees, adding to humidity discomfort.
Light rain is expected in over 50 districts of Uttar Pradesh from Tuesday through Thursday, with the mercury likely to dip further by up to 3°C.
