Court bars CarryMinati from posting defamatory videos about Karan Johar

Mumbai: A civil court on Tuesday directed YouTuber Ajey Nagar, popularly known as CarryMinati, from creating or posting any content deemed “defamatory, vulgar, and abusive” about filmmaker Karan Johar.
The court also instructed social media platforms to remove existing videos by Nagar targeting the filmmaker.
The interim order was passed by Civil Judge P G Bhosale in a suit filed by Johar against Nagar. Several other parties, including Nagar’s manager Deepak Char, One Hand Clap Media Pvt Ltd, and social media giants Google and Meta, were also named as defendants.
Johar, represented by DSK Legal, claimed that certain videos circulating online sought to ridicule him and harm his reputation and goodwill “painstakingly built over decades.” He had sought a temporary injunction to restrain Nagar and his associates from producing or uploading such material.
During proceedings, Nagar’s lawyer argued that the YouTuber had already deleted the controversial videos, leaving “no cause of action” for the court.
After hearing all parties, the judge noted, “prima facie it appears that the defendant no 1 and 2 (Nagar and Char) have made defamatory statements and used vulgar language against the plaintiff,” and consequently passed the temporary injunction. The order also directs Meta to remove the videos in question.
