New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Friday alleged that its leader Abhijeet Dipke had been taken to an undisclosed location by Delhi Police and that contact with him had been lost. The party also claimed that he was not being allowed to speak to lawyers.

In a post on X, the CJP questioned the police action, asking why the government was treating young people like terrorists and asserting that citizens were entitled to constitutional protections and rights.

“Where have you taken Abhijeet? You owe an answer to us,” the party asked, tagging Delhi Police.

The CJP said Dipke had been walking out of his home with the national flag when he was detained. “How can walking with a Tiranga be a crime?” it asked.

Dipke and All India Students' Association (AISA) chief Neha Bora were preventively detained by Delhi Police on Friday while on their way to participate in the 'Lehra Do Tiranga' protests. Dipke was picked up from his residence in Jhandewalan, while Bora was detained at Mandi House.

Police sources said Dipke was taken to Jafarpur Kalan police station after his detention.

Police also began detaining protesters who had gathered at Connaught Place. A police officer said around 150 people had been detained so far, adding that those attempting to disrupt law and order were being taken into custody.

Earlier, more than 20 police personnel had visited Dipke's residence and served him a notice directing him to refrain from actions that could prejudice the rights of citizens, traders, commuters, patients and others.

The detentions came amid heightened security arrangements in the national capital ahead of the proposed protest on Friday evening. Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar visited the DCP New Delhi office at Parliament Street police station to review security arrangements.

A senior police officer said the situation was peaceful and that the police were focused on maintaining law and order and ensuring smooth traffic movement.
