Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni result 2026: Udhayanidhi Stalin secures win after close contest

Chennai: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has retained the Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni Assembly constituency, with its candidate Udhayanidhi Stalin emerging victorious in the 2026 elections. He secured 62,992 votes, holding on to the seat for the party after a closely watched contest.

The high-profile Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni Assembly constituency in Chennai is a keenly watched contest in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The seat, currently held by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, has long been a DMK stronghold and remains central to the party’s political influence in the capital city. Udhayanidhi Stalin is once again in the fray as the DMK candidate, seeking re-election from the constituency.
According to the Election Commission of India, a total of 26 candidates are contesting from Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni this time. The principal challenger comes from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, represented by Aadirajaram, while other parties such as the Bahujan Samaj Party (Mohammed Yasser), Naam Tamilar Katchi (Aysha), and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (Selvam D) are also in the fray. A significant number of Independent candidates have also entered the contest, reflecting a crowded electoral field.
Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni is one of the 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu and falls within Chennai district in the northern region of the state. The constituency is unreserved (General category), with Scheduled Castes accounting for 12.37% of the population and Scheduled Tribes 0.16%, as per Census 2011 data. The seat has a total electorate of 1,63,866 voters, including 79,412 men and 84,396 women, and boasts a high literacy rate of 90.33%.
Polling in the constituency was held on April 23, 2026, with counting of votes to take place on May 4, 2026.
In the previous 2021 Assembly elections, the DMK-led alliance registered a sweeping victory across the state, winning 159 of the 234 seats, while the AIADMK-led alliance secured 75 seats. The Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni seat was comfortably retained by the DMK, reinforcing its status as a party stronghold.
