Chennai: Early morning fog is set to continue in Chennai and eight other districts, while moderate rainfall is likely across parts of Tamil Nadu until March 1, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).

In its latest weather bulletin, the RMC said a low-pressure system that had formed over the Bay of Bengal has weakened. However, residual effects of the system, combined with prevailing atmospheric conditions, are expected to trigger moderate rain in isolated parts of southern Tamil Nadu and select northern districts on Wednesday.

Light to moderate rainfall is also forecast for Puducherry and the Karaikal region. The Meteorological Department indicated that rainfall activity may persist across Tamil Nadu over the next few days, with weather conditions remaining unsettled until March 1.

The current weather pattern is characterised by changing wind directions and moisture incursion from the sea, which are contributing to cloud formation and sporadic showers.

Meanwhile, light fog is likely during the early morning hours in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore and Ranipet districts on Wednesday and Thursday. The fog may reduce visibility in interior areas and along highways, prompting authorities to advise motorists to exercise caution during dawn travel.

Alongside rain and fog, the RMC has forecast a rise in daytime temperatures. Until February 28, maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are expected to remain 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal.

Weather experts said the combination of above-normal daytime heat and misty mornings reflects a transitional weather phase in the region. Although the Bay of Bengal low-pressure area has weakened, localised convection and continued moisture availability could still result in isolated showers.

Farmers, particularly in rain-fed districts, have been advised to monitor local weather updates for timely advisories. The Meteorological Department said it will continue issuing regular forecasts as conditions evolve.
