BJP leader facing FIR for issuing death threat to Rahul Gandhi surrenders before police

Thrissur, Kerala: BJP leader Printu Mahadevan surrendered at Peramangalam Police Station here on Tuesday following allegations of making a death threat against Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Party workers accompanied him to the station. He is set to be produced before a magistrate.

Case registered after TV debate remarks

Earlier, Kerala Police had registered a case against Mahadevan for allegedly threatening Gandhi during a television debate. The Congress condemned the remarks, accusing the BJP and RSS of attempting to silence the opposition.

The complaint, lodged by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee secretary Sreekumar C.C., led to an FIR citing Sections 192, 353, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, covering provocation, public mischief, and criminal intimidation.

Context of the remarks

The controversial statements were made during a discussion on the recent Gen Z-led protests in Nepal. Mahadevan reportedly claimed such protests would not occur in India and stated that “bullets would pierce the chest” of Gandhi if he had any such intentions.
