Assam election battle begins: BJP’s 10-day outreach yatra to roll out tomorrow

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to launch a 10-day Jana Ashirwad Yatra in Assam starting Saturday as part of its pre-election outreach strategy ahead of the state Assembly polls.
The campaign will run until March 9, 2026, covering multiple districts across the state. Senior state ministers and senior party leaders are expected to participate in the programme.
Purpose of the outreach programme
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the yatra is not only about showcasing government achievements but also about directly engaging with citizens at the grassroots level.
He emphasised that the programme aims to understand public concerns and aspirations, which can help shape future policy decisions.
Sarma highlighted development work in sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, employment generation and social welfare.
At the same time, he stressed that protecting Assam’s cultural identity and demographic balance remains a key priority of the government.
Political significance ahead of polls
The outreach campaign comes as BJP and its alliance partners aim to strengthen their electoral position before the Assembly elections.
Sarma claimed that the ruling alliance is in a strong position in at least 103 out of 126 Assembly seats, though he avoided predicting final seat outcomes.
He expressed confidence that public support would continue, stating that the party’s focus is on development, stability and safeguarding Assam’s interests.
The Jana Ashirwad Yatra is expected to continue across districts in the coming days as part of the BJP’s broader election strategy.
