IMD issues thunderstorm and strong wind warning for Karnataka

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has issued a warning for thunderstorms and strong winds across parts of Karnataka over the next three days.

Orange and yellow alerts have been issued for several regions in the state. Thunderstorms accompanied by wind speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are expected in the north interior parts of Karnataka until May 17.

Although wind speeds are likely to decrease on May 18, thunderstorms may continue in some parts of the region. Apart from North Interior Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka is also expected to experience thunderstorms with wind speeds ranging between 40 and 50 kmph during the same period.

Heavy rainfall likely due to Bay of Bengal depression

Heavy rainfall is likely in several areas due to the depression over the Bay of Bengal. According to officials, thunderstorms accompanied by thunder and lightning may affect nearly half of Karnataka.

In view of the weather conditions, a yellow alert has been declared in several districts across the state.

Yellow alert issued in multiple Karnataka districts

The districts placed under yellow alert include Raichur, Yadgir, Koppal, Bagalkot, Gadag, Dharwad, Ballari, Haveri, Vijayanagar, Shivamogga, Davangere, Chitradurga, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Tumakuru, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Chamarajanagar, Kolar, Bangalore Urban, Chikkaballapur and Bangalore Rural districts.

Wind patterns influencing weather across south India
