# News Desk

Bengaluru: A Reddit post showing the sorry state of Bengaluru’s MG Road has gone viral, drawing sharp criticism from residents. Once a landmark stretch, the road is now riddled with uneven potholes and patchwork surfaces. Users compared Bengaluru’s roads to those in smaller towns despite the city paying some of the highest road taxes in India.

Many residents shared their frustrations online, highlighting the risks of driving on these roads, especially for pregnant women and families. Social media posts also highlighted similar issues on city footpaths, with encroachments, debris, and garbage making pedestrian movement difficult.

The posts quickly gained traction, reflecting wider dissatisfaction with the city’s infrastructure. Residents urged authorities to enforce proper maintenance and address systemic issues rather than temporary fixes, noting that poor road and footpath conditions are a widespread problem in Bengaluru.

The viral Reddit post, captioned “They really destroyed MG Road,” showcased pothole-ridden, patched-up stretches of Bengaluru’s once-iconic road. Netizens compared the city’s roads to those in tier-2 cities, questioning the return on the city’s high road taxes.

A video by Canadian influencer Caleb Friesen documenting HSR Layout’s footpaths also went viral. He pointed out that encroachments block pedestrian paths, unmaintained footpaths become dumping spots, and these areas often turn into public toilets. Many residents agreed, sharing similar experiences across Bengaluru, including unsafe stretches near Banashankari and JP Nagar.

The widespread public reaction highlights frustration with temporary patchwork repairs and poor civic management. Citizens called for sustained action to restore Bengaluru’s infrastructure, emphasising that short-term fixes fail to address underlying issues. The viral posts underscore the growing concern over road safety and pedestrian accessibility in the city.
